Niaz Imam Jafar-e-Sadiq Part I

22nd of Rajab is celebrated with supplications to Allah azwj, praise and remembrance of Masomeen aswss’ contributions and sacrifices for the purpose of establishing Allah azwj’s recognition and saving entire universe from destruction. A specially prepared feast is also offered to brethren in Eman along with denouncing the enemies of Ahlul Baita sws. A centuries’ old tradition, regularly commemorated by the followers of Ahlul Baita sws, and is referred to ‘Niaz’ Imam Jafar-e-Sadiqa sws. We have briefly described, below, preparation and offering of this feast.

In order to prepare Niaz it is suggested that followers of Ahlul Baita sws should get up early in the morning of 22 Rajab and should clean the house and purify themselves by taking Ghusal (bath/shower), put on fragrance (etar) and lit agar bate/use air freshener in their home and spread a clean ‘tahir’ sheet in a clean room. One should make sure all the utensils to be used in the preparation of niaz are clean and Pak.

Procedure For Preparing Niaz

Make dough of approximately one kilogram and a quarter of flour ‘mayda’ and prepare 14 pieces of bread ‘pooriyan’ and short sweet bread ‘tikiyan’ (which are sweet bread and small in size like pan cakes) and fry them in oil. Prepare some semolina ‘halwa’ as well or kheer, a traditional rice pudding.

For khas niaz take out 7 pooriyan and 7 tikiyan and some halwa in clean and pure pots and place the pots containing Niaz facing Qibla. After praying Fajar prayers read the following mojiza of Imam Jafar-e-Sadiqa sws‘s offer niaz, and make  prayers.  One should take extra care in consuming khas niaz and it is better not to allow any one to take the ‘khas niaz’ i.e. the selected portion, out of the house as it is considered disrespectful. The other food to be prepared may be given out to take away by momaneen. The niaz is also part of a celebration, a day on which Allah azwj relieved momaneen from one of the worst Muslim rulers, who was trying to kill and eliminated shian-e-Ali sws.

What is Zikr?

Zikr means remembrance of God (Allah). The Qur’an tells us to practice Zikr in order to expand our aliveness, increase our spiritual attunement and find rest for our hearts. In doing so, we invoke the immediate experience of divine attributes, specifically activating the energies of compassion and mercy and drawing blessings from the angelic realm.

‘Lá iláha illallah’ is the belief in the Divine Lordship of Allah (referred to as ‘ruboobiyyah’). Which means believing that Allah is the only one power who creates, gives life and death, and maintains the affairs of all that’s in this universe that exist in between life and death.

‘Allah Hoo’ becomes a complete sentence translating to ‘HE is Allah’. When the pronoun ‘Hoo’ is combined with the word ‘Allah’, it becomes a complete sentence: ‘HE is Allah’. Understand a simple grammatical principle that this is a complete sentence. The pronoun ‘Hoo’ gives it the meaning ‘HE is (exists), Whose name is Allah’.

‘Howa’ is a sacred and a secret name in spirituality of Allah. It is derived from ‘Hoo’ (verb), which states the one that exists, and always been in existence and will always be.

What is Sufism?

This question has many answers and depending on who answers, the answers are very similar. Simply put, Sufism is a path and the one who walks the path is known as a Sufi.

Islam is a complete religion. The Sharia law in Islam provides guidelines for humanity, setting out principles, practices and clear law and order to assist in structuring and building Muslim communities around the world. Islam, being a complete and unique religion also has, Tareeqat. One must follow Sharia and Tareeqat. Tareeqat, like Sharia, has principles, practices and clear law and order. Tareeqat also assists in structuring and building Muslim communities around the world. Tareeqat has much diversity. Dependent upon which Tareeqat you follow, you become known by that Tareeqat. For example the Sufi Spiritual Society is of the Tareeqat-e-Ovaisia.

In the early days of Islam, knowledge of enlightened guidance was received through our beloved Prophet Hazrat Mohammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam peace be upon him and his progeny (PBUHAHP) and then Hazrat Maula Ali alayhi as-salam peace be upon him (PBUH). Such knowledge provided spiritual enlightenment to those who followed the knowledge. Depending on who the knowledge was received from, various names were given to the particular way of the teachings, thus becoming different Tareeqats. The one who learned the Tareeqat was thus the enlightened one. The enlightened one then passed on this knowledge. This is briefly where Tareeqats originated from. Tareeqat-e-Ovaisia originates from Hazrat Ovais-e-Karni radhiallahu ‘anhu (RA).

 

Coming back to Islam being a complete and unique religion, for avoidance of any doubt, in order to follow a particular Tareeqat, one vital condition is that one follows Sharia law. Sharia provides the foundation and only if one follows sharia law they are allowed to further progress and follow Tareeqat. In fact turning the phrases “once you break through the surface you may go deeper to the core”. You see Shariat gives one an understanding of the way of life in accordance to Islam. Tareeqat enlightens one to a path followed before them. The path is Sufism and the one who decides to walk that path is a Sufi. Sufism is the inner, mystical, or psycho-spiritual dimension of Islam. Through devotion and certain practices you attain to a higher spiritual state. A Sufi completely surrenders to God, in love, over and over; which involves embracing with love at each moment the content of one’s consciousness, one’s perceptions, thoughts, and feelings, as well as one’s sense of self. Only then one receives the gifts of God or more precisely, manifestations from God.

Today, it has become increasingly harder to decipher between right and wrong, lawful and unlawful and truth and false hood. What is the reason for this? There are more mosques today than there ever was before. Islam is being taught more today than it was ever taught before. So going by that logic, we should all be at peace and be able to co-exist peacefully. We should be able to manage our country affairs on an international level of excellence never seen before. In fact, we as the Muslim nation should be a role model society for the world and lead by example. Shouldn’t we? Instead we have disintegrated into many smaller groups. Have you ever thought why?

 

There were many individuals who learnt very little about Islam and laid claim to teaching it their own manner, following no particular Tareeqat. Doing this had its flaws and to recognise this we have to go back in time. In the days of our beloved prophet we were all united under one banner, Islam and known as just Muslims. We have become more and more indoctrinated to think according to the way of Islam we have been taught while living under a particular sect. In each sect there is intolerance towards breaking set patterns of worship and intolerance towards other sects. Our beloved prophet taught with patience and tolerance, so we should follow with our prophet as our example.

There is also lack of belief in the oneness of Allah. This is eventually the root cause of why we are not one among ourselves. Many have taken to side tracks of Islam.

The Sufi Spiritual Society has formed to put you on a path of enlightenment; to teach you the hidden knowledge, the forgotten knowledge of Islam, to guide you through it and to teach you from it, to heal you using it. We want people to develop spiritually. We want to show people how they can develop extra sensory perceptions, how they can excel in all aspects of life. To remould ways back to the ways of our beloved Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam (PBUHAHP). To guide and nurture one to the path which leads to Allah T’ala.

We want to re-establish Sufism. We want to show you how to decipher between right and wrong, lawful and unlawful and truth and false hood. We will show you using the same knowledge you are familiar with, The Holy Qu’ran. The difference this time is that you will get a chance to view, first hand, how the knowledge of the Qu’ran can come to life in the right hands. We understand the problems within society and want to rectify them. We want to promote brotherhood under one banner; Islam as one Muslim Ummah.
